Roman Baranovič

director @ ES Narnia

My entire professional life I was working in area of improving education at primary and secondary schools and introducing innovation in the process. Most of this was about using technology to improve everything that happens in schools – teaching or administrative processes.

After I graduated as a mathematics and informatics teacher in the year 1998 I started working for the project Infovek at the Ministry of Education aimed at introducing computers and the Internet to Slovak schools. In this project I worked until February 2007. The project was finally successful and in 2007 the core objectives of the project were met-all primary and secondary schools were already connected to the Internet and equipped with computers, schools were equipped with educational software, tens of thousands of teachers learned to work with them and technology become part of their everyday work.

In February 2007 I started my work for Microsoft as their local director of the program partners in learning. It was a Microsoft initiative aimed at helping schools, teachers and politicians to bring innovation into the education process.

Since August 2010 I worked as General Director of the Institute of Information and Prognoses in education and I was appointed by the Minister of Education to fight administration load in schools. During this time I have designed an eAktovka project ( to share and disseminate the digital form of textbooks used in Slovak schools and Digital School Map( to improve public awareness of schools in Slovakia.

Since August 2013 I work as director of the Church Elementary school Narnia. This school became the largest non-state school in Slovakia with 800 students and 120 teachers and employees. In the school we promote the program based on christian humanistic values, we seek ways how to teach kids not just the academic content but help them to work on their character to be valuable citizens of Slovakia in the future concerned about the wellbeing of others, social aspects of activities and bringing innovation to improve the country and the world.
