Mgr. Peter Gömöry, PhD.

leader of Department of Solar Physics @ director of Astronomical Institute of SAS

Has been an independent researcher since 2013
(scientific qualification IIa). Since 2017, he has been the leader of
Department of Solar Physics. Since June 2019, he has been the director of Astronomical
Institute of SAS. The main field of his scientific activity is magnetic research
structures and active phenomena in a sunny atmosphere.
In 2008 he received a two-year post-doc residency at the University of Graz in
Austria. In addition, he completed two other long-term stays abroad:
at Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik (AIP), Potsdam, Germany (6 months)
and at the Sterrekundig Instituut, Utrecht University, The Netherlands (10 months).
In addition, he completed another 41 short – term stays (in total
545 days) at major, international, scientific institutions.
Peter Gömöry has so far led and continues to lead a total of 10 foreign and domestic
scientific projects obtained under the various grant schemes
eg: H2020, FP7, APVV, VEGA and DFG. He is currently the leader of three
projects (H2020 2x, VEGA). He has been the leader of several international
observation campaigns that included measurements at the largest European
solar binoculars.
He currently lectures at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of
Comenius University in Bratislava and at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ
in Košice the subject Physics of the Sun.
