He is president of the Association of Entrepreneurs of Slovakia. He is a founding member of the Republic Employers Union and is a member of its Presidium. As Chairman of the RÚZ Committee for European Affairs and Foreign Relations, he represents Slovak employers in international employers ‘organizations, BusinessEurope in Brussels, the BIAC at the OECD and the International Employers’ Organization (IOE) at the Geneva International Labor Organization.
In 1999-2002 he worked as General Director of the Strategy Section of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. During this period, he was chairman and member of several Supervisory and Management Boards.
Ján Oravec is a founding member of the F. Hayek Foundation and its long-time president (1992 – 2013). In 1997 he founded the Slovak Taxpayers Association.
In 1987 he graduated from Comenius University (philosophy – political economy), in 1994 He studied at Swiburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia (Business Administration) and from 1993 to 1995 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas (Bank Management). In 1996 he obtained the title of Candidate of Sciences in the Institute of Slovak and World Economy in Bratislava.
He is engaged in consultancy, performs in the media, publishes and lectures.
