Gerhard is the CEO and co-founder of FRINX.io a company focused on open source networking. FRINX.io was founded in 2016 and works with Fortune Global 500 customers to provide products and solutions for network automation and virtual routing and switching in cloud environments. Gerhard was previously a Senior Director with Cisco Systems and lived in the US for 12 years. During his career at Cisco, he held responsibility for the design and rollout of AT&T’s global IP/MPLS backbone and business service edge network. After moving from sales to engineering, he reported to Cisco’s CTO where he led a team of distinguished engineers and leaders to deploy new technology and create new products for Cisco. He received a patent award from the US Patent and Trademark Office for his work on “SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR COMPRESSING MESSAGE HEADERS”. He co-wrote a book on MPLS VPNs for Prentice Hall/Pearson Education (“MPLS-Based VPNs: Designing Advanced Virtual Networks”). He was a contributor to the “OPERATIONALIZATION OF SOFTWARE-DEFINED NETWORKS (SDN) PROGRAM REVIEW”, conducted by the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy. He organizes regular meetups in Europe to bring engineers together that share an interest in the evolution of networking. Gerhard lives in Vienna, Austria together with his wife and two kids.
